Carol & Dorine's Adventures in Italia (October 17 - 26, 2006) :

Italy is a beautiful country, there is no debate to that! Our trip was magnificent, exploring Rome, Florence, Siena, Pisa (just to see the leaning tower), and Venice. We traveled within each city solely by foot (my booty & legs got a workout from all the walking), and between cities by train. Our explorations within each city were governed solely by following a "tourist" map...we just walked along stopping at all the marked "points of interest"... and everywhere in between.

We drank cappacino and wine daily, and enjoyed the great gelato, panini sandwiches, and pasta Italy has to offer! There was plenty of EYE CANDY...the many handsome italian men we saw...you know i was grinning ear to ear in delight! Italy (i think all europe) has the cutest car...the Smart Car. It was so tiny and cute, i wish i could get one here in the states. Everyone there has a "moto" which is like a motorcycle / mopad ... all the men in their suits and women in their short skirts and very high heals were riding them. I thought that was super cool.

Anyhow, here is a short (haha, or not) blog of the adventures and sites we explored in Italy...if it gets too boring to read, just enjoy the pictures!

October 17: Rome

After an overnight flight, we arrive in Rome Italy at 7:30 am. It was quite a first day and only WOW can describe this city! Rather then resting and wasting a single minute, we ventured out to explore this amazing country.

First stop worth mentioning... Fontana di Trevi. The fountain was huge and everyone flocked to see its magnificence. The floor of the fountain was filled with change from all the wishes made! Ofcourse, we too made a wish :) Here is a pic of me posing infront of the fountain...

After we snapped a few pics, we continued to Piazza de Navona.

In this square you can find 2 famous sculptures by Bernini...

1 . Fontana Del Moro (Fountain of the Moor). Here is Dorine posing with the "god of the sea".

2. Fontana Del Fiumi (Fountain of the Rivers). This is the famous sculpture representing 4 different rivers - the Danube, the Ganges, the Nile, and the Rio de la Plata, each identifiable by the flora and fauna. This was under contruction, so the pics are not very good.

This square is a huge tourist attraction point, with plenty of painters and locals trying to make a dollar! It is quite beutiful here & there are plenty of cafes, so Dorine and I sat down for some cappacino (and a break from walking). Here are some pic where you can get a feel of the scene.

These guys are everywhere.. they pose in crazy costumes in the heat for tips. Gotta give them credit! And they look GREAT!

Next big stop, el Vaticano (Vatican City) to see St. Peter's Basillica!

.......We waited in line for some time to enter St. Peter's Basillica, but it was worth it. The best word to describe this church is "overwhelming"!! The art is amazing, every painting and sculpture so detailed and alive. The church is so big there are dozens of cathedrals within it, each the size of a regular church. I took MANY pictures, but most are not clear enough to post. Here are a few, and a pic (above) of the outside of St. Peters and the famous dome.

This is a picture of one of the two water fountains outside the vatican. I don't remember what was special about it, but it was pretty.

The first pic below is a very famous (or so i read) sculpture of Mary holding Jesus after he is taken down from the cross. It is all quite beautiful!

The art on the ceiling and domes is amazing! In fact, every scultpure and painting and everything is amazing! One thing i can say about Rome is that no matter where you walk, you will see art!

WOW, okay i know that was a long day, but I get less picture happy as the trip continues... I PROMISE!

Our first night ended the clasic italian way, with Pizza and wine!

Saluti e Ciao!
